Omiya Hikawa Shrine

Omiya Hikawa Shrine (大宮氷川神社) is the principal Hikawa shrine of the Musashi Province (modern Tokyo and parts of Saitama and Kanagawa), and gives its name to the entire Omiya district of Saitama City. Founded over 2,400 years ago, it is one of the oldest shrines in the entire Kanto region.

The shrine enshrines Susano-o no Mikoto, his consort Kushinada-hime, and their descendant Okuninushi — the same divine “matchmaking family” as Akasaka Hikawa Shrine in Tokyo. This three-generation deity pairing makes Omiya Hikawa one of the most comprehensive enmusubi shrines in the Tokyo region.

The shrine grounds include a famous 2-kilometer cedar-lined approach (the longest in Japan), a koi pond, and seasonal cherry and plum blossoms.
