Izumoiwai Shrine (出雲祝神社) is located in Akiruno City, western Tokyo. As its name suggests (Izumo + iwai, meaning “celebration”), the shrine has connections to the great matchmaking shrine of Izumo Taisha. The principal deity is Okuninushi no Mikoto, the supreme deity of bonds, who is also enshrined at Izumo.

The shrine offers a quiet, rural alternative for those who wish to pray to the great enmusubi deity without traveling all the way to Shimane Prefecture. The grounds are surrounded by countryside and seasonal greenery, and the shrine has been a local center of community life for many centuries.
