Sogahime Shrine (蘇我比咩神社, Sogahime Jinja) is located in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. The principal deity is Sogahime no Mikoto, who in local legend was the consort of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto during his eastern expedition. When Yamato Takeru’s beloved Otachibana-hime sacrificed herself in the sea (as in the Hashirimizu legend), Sogahime is said to have prayed for safe passage and supported him through his grief.

For this reason, the shrine has been honored as a place to pray for fidelity in marriage, the protection of love through hardship, and safe passage for those traveling far from home. It is one of the lesser-known but spiritually rich shrines of the Kanto coastline.
